Davis Pratt papers, 1959-1981.

Correspondence, annual reports, journal articles, teaching materials and other professional papers of Davis Pratt, a professor of design at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, who specialized in tools for developing countries. Collection contains class readers, syllabi and student assignments for a class on cross-cultural problem-solving, and two mimeographed books produced by his students: "Bicycle Brainstorms" (by 1975 class of Design-391) and "The Limerick as an Instrument of Social Comment" (by 1977 class of Design-102). The papers also include a 1959 plan for disposable housing for laboratory mice for Labline, Inc., papers relating to Professor Pratt's tenure with the Design Research Institute, a joint project of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and the Government of Thailand, and annual reports, correspondence, and journal articles from Intermediate Technology, and its journal, Appropriate Technology.
